Hanging Around.
| |
Well, since I was the very first driver to go out, there was not much
to do after I was done, but hang around and wait. I did give one guy
one or two words of advice about shifting the gears. The four-speed,
manual transmission, with a large shifter with a plain circular ivory
knob, and quite huge bare metal pedals, reminded me of that in the
around-town U-Haul "Adventure In Moving" Cube-Vans some of us had
occasionally rented when moving.
The real reason I include this picture is that perhaps you can make
out the fellow in the very left of the picture. He was from Brazil,
and his first language was Portuguese (not Spanish; there looked to
be at least one Spanish-speaker on the Driving School staff). But
see if you can see his sideburns! He did a much more precise job
of emulating a 1970's Richard Petty than I did!
