I wanted to test a few more close competitors in GT1. However, since I was running out of garage slots in my main game (Maybe here), I decided to continue the testing in my mitsu game (maybe here). |
As documented by others, the Nissan Pulsar GTi-R is an amazingly capable little car. It easily wins the USvsUS and UKvsUS series, and I came close to winning the GT World Cup with it, although I lost. With a little more practice I might be able to win, though. |
I was amazed that its win at the Grand Valley 300 was so easy, though. |
The fact it is so light helps let it get away with only three stops, however, which helps a lot. |

I got a smooth start, holding my fourth place and passing the GTR-LM at the first turn to take 3rd briefly, although it repassed. But at the second hairpin I got by permanently. |
I passed the NSX between the tunnels to take second, and the Impreza at the final double hairpin to take first before the end of the first lap and just began gradually pulling away. |
I lapped my first car, the Lantis, on lap 13. |
My lap times were mostly below 1:40, except when I had trouble trying to pass cars I was lapping. |
I lapped the field before my last pit stop, passing the NSX just as it left the pits, having passed the GT-R LM shortly before that. The NSX and I jostled a bit and stayed pretty even until I took my last pit stop and therefore dropped back. I finally relapped the NSX on about lap 53, and lapped the Impreza a couple of laps later. |
I confirmed a minor bug in the record-keeping in GT1 while running this race. |
I noticed that my own fastest lap was recorded as the record in this game, even though the GTO'92 twinturbo must have set a much faster lap back on September 16, 2001. |
Well, it seems that if you do a second practice session and set a new unofficial fastest lap during it, that lap time remains shown as the fastest lap during the main event. |
If you never beat that lap time during the main event, your own actual fastest lap will not be recorded as such, but neither does the practice lap time get recorded. Either the previous fastest lap remains, or, if there was no fastest lap set for the event, the event remains with no fastest lap recorded. |
So I must have done that with the GTO'92 twinturbo on September 16, 2001; I arranged to review the game save before this race, and it indeed had no fastest lap recorded for the Grand Valley 300, although it did have a total event time record; I also managed to artificially recreate the situation, and indeed, things work as I say. |
Once again, for your analytical enjoyment, I here present all 60 lap times... |

Actual total count, at 800BDB74, was 005B52D1, or 5984977 thousandths of seconds. So the above is exactly right. |
Here are the settings. |
My Settings Tires S S max parts (TS3) Spring Rate 3.9 2.6 (max, max) Ride Height 105 105 (min, min) Dampers 5 5 Camber 1.5 1.4 Stabilizers 3 3 Brake Balance 13 11 1st 3.285 2nd 1.850 3rd 1.272 4th 0.954 5th 0.766 ----- FD 3.400 Aero 0.49 0.72 (max,max) |
Basically, most settings are maximized or minimized as appropriate. Perhaps careful reduction of the aero will squeeze some extra speed out of this car. |
